What an incredible trip to Iceland and Italy we had over the last 2 weeks. We just got back home last Friday and it was nothing less then an adventure!
Rewind to two weeks ago, when we were sitting in an airport on Labor day, about to board our plane to Iceland. Over the loud speaker, just 15 minutes before take off to Iceland, we hear, “Sorry, due to maintenance your flight has been cancelled.” Ashley and I were standing in the snack store about to store up on food and we dropped everything and ran to the guys. We were in SHOCK. This could not be happening. We were to land in Iceland at 5am and the guys were to go FILM a WEDDING! For the next 3 hours we sat there with everyone else trying to figure out what to do. WowAir had only ever canceled one other flight before. We searched every airline and tried to get the guys out of here to get to Iceland. Nothing was available. It was a SAD sad sad sad night to say the least. However, Wow Air did take care of us, and put us in a hotel and give us food vouchers. But sadly, we did not take off for iceland until Tuesday at 11am and we landed at 8:30pm Iceland time. We missed the whole wedding and were beside our selves, but we were SO thankful Jill & Katelyn were there to photograph the wedding, so their hubbies Buddy & Michael stepped in for us and filmed the whole wedding. This was their first wedding to film together, and Tyler gave them a crash course. They killed it and did amazing! They gave all the footage to Trevor and he put together a super special wedding film. Talk about Team work! We got a great laugh hearing how Buddy & Michael came up with creative shots. You can see the wedding film below 🙂 All filmed by Michael & Buddy (minus the drone shots) and edited by Trevor (740films)
Now, since we missed day 1 of Iceland, we only had 48 hours in Iceland before we headed back to the airport to board our flight to ITALY! We made the MOST of our time in Iceland. Once we arrived to our cute hotel in the middle of nowhere on Tuesday night, we came up with a game plan of what Wednesday was going to look like. We new we didn’t have tons of time, but we wanted to see as much as we could. We spent the day in South Iceland, drove to Vik, Iceland and worked our way back to Selfoss, where we were staying. We got up at 8am and started our adventure. We saw waterfalls after waterfalls, it was incredible. We would just pull over to the side of the road and take photos and video of them. It was beautiful. Driving through Iceland is simply beautiful. Our first big hike was to Seljalandfoss, where we found the hot springs pool in the middle of the valley. It was gorgeous. We did experience the hot spring and get it. The bottom was SO slimy, but it was an experience I won’t forget 🙂 We then headed down to Vik, We got to to see the black sand beaches at Vik. This was my first time seeing black sand beaches and they were beautiful. We went to Dyrholaey, which we could drive up to the top of the cliff and look off, talk about breathtaking. We came back to another waterfall, this one was HUGE, the Skogafoss, Waterfall. We spent a lot of time here and met up with our friends, Anna & Ryan, Michael & Katelyn, Buddy & Jilly, and Amy & Jordan. We spend the rest of the evening with them and all 12 of us stayed in a house together. We ended up staying up WAY to late and chatting, but it was so worth it. We all slept in on Thursday, because we were exhausted. Ryan made a delicious breakfast for everyone. He had planned a hike to another Hot Springs, so we all geared up for that. It rained most of Thursday, and we hiked 2 miles to one of the coolest places I had ever been, a natural river hot springs. We all got in and it was really warm and so so amazing. It was one of the coolest things we did there. This ended our Iceland adventure, and we headed to the airport to fly to Italy. The Italy Adventure is coming soon! 🙂
